  • NASA SCaN Quantum Faculty Fellowship Opportunities

NASA’s Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) program office seeks to enhance faculty professional knowledge and leadership experience by offering two 10-week summer fellowship opportunities for educators who are interested in collaborating with world-class scientists and engineers in the areas of quantum communications and networks and quantum information science (QIS). The program is designed to enable faculty members to broaden their professional outlook towards quantum applications and STEM outreach of interest to NASA’s Quantum Science and Technology (QS&T) program.

  • SCQIS Releases Strategic Plan for Bringing Quantum Sensors to Fruition

(March 24, 2022) Today, the National Science and Technology Council Subcommittee on Quantum Information Science (SCQIS) released the strategic plan for “Bringing Quantum Sensors to Fruition.” Quantum sensing technologies have already been hugely beneficial to society, for example, with the Global Position System (GPS) utilizing atomic clocks, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) leveraging nuclear spin control for medical imaging. There are also near-term opportunities for new quantum sensors to become fieldable technologies, with similar transformative impacts. However, the long technological development arc from basic research to a commercialized product requires focused, substantial, and sustained efforts. Along with the wide application space and varied end-user requirements, maturing quantum sensing technologies requires a long-term strategy to align government agency priorities and unite private stakeholders.

  • SCQIS Releases Strategic Plan for QIST Workforce

(February 1, 2022) Today the National Science and Technology Council Subcommittee on Quantum Information Science (SCQIS) released its National Strategic Plan for QIST Workforce Development. The report recommends a series of actions and highlights community opportunities to grow the QIST workforce through expanded training and education at all levels. It also highlights the continued importance of gathering data on the workforce needs of industry, academia, and the federal government, and of developing long-term learning opportunities to expand and broaden the nation’s pool of talent and ensure the QIST workforce represents all of America. The report will help guide our Nation’s QIST efforts in the coming years as the Federal government works to strengthen the pool of quantum-ready workers.
