  • NSF launches $100M National Quantum and Nanotechnology Research Infrastructure program

    The U.S. National Science Foundation is investing up to $100 million to establish a nationwide network of open-access research facilities for quantum and nanoscale technologies, innovation, and workforce training. Through the new NSF National Quantum and Nanotechnology Infrastructure (NSF NQNI) program, NSF will support up to 16 sites over five years, providing students, researchers, and industry with access to state-of-the-art fabrication and characterization tools, instrumentation, and expertise.

  • DARPA to Host Proposers Day for Robust Quantum Sensors Program

    (December 23, 2024) On January 31, 2025, DARPA will host an in-person Proposers Day at the DARPA Conference Center in Arlington, VA. The Proposers Day is an opportunity to learn more about the anticipated Robust Quantum Sensors (RoQS) program vision, foster collaboration among stakeholders, address questions, and promote teaming arrangements for research and development.

  • NIH Webinars on Quantum Technology Prize Challenges

    (November 1, 2024) The Quantum Biomedical Innovations and Technologies (Qu-BIT) Program has announced that Informational webinars for the NIH Quantum Sensing Technology Prize Challenge and the NIH Quantum Computing Prize Challenge will be held on November 13th. In these webinars the following will be covered:

  • DOE Announces funding for Quantum Computing for Novel Chemistry and Materials Science Simulations

    (October 24, 2024) The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) at the U.S. Department of Energy has announced a new program that will pioneer novel approaches to studying chemistry and materials using quantum computing. The Quantum Computing for Computational Chemistry (QC3) program allocates $30 million to support the research and development of scalable, generalizable quantum computing approaches to computational chemistry and materials science which can lead to significant energy impact or reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

  • DOE Office of Science Releases FY25 Open Solicitation featuring QIS Funding Opportunities

    (September 30, 2024) The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science (SC) released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the ‘FY 2025 Continuation of Solicitation for the Office of Science Financial Assistance Program’. This NOFO is the annual open solicitation that covers all research areas in SC and is open throughout the Fiscal Year. Funding opportunities in quantum information science (QIS) are included throughout SC program areas including Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR), Basic Energy Sciences (BES), Fusion Energy Sciences (FES), High Energy Physics (HEP), and Nuclear Physics (NP).

  • DARPA to Host Meeting with Quantum Computing Companies

    (August 29, 2024) DARPA is hosting a Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI) proposers day on Sept. 3, 2024, for quantum computing companies that believe they are on track to develop an industrial-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer in the near term. The goal of the hybrid in-person and virtual proposers day is to introduce the quantum computing research and development community to DARPA and the QBI vision and goals, explain the mechanics and milestones of the QBI solicitation, and solicit and reply to questions from attendees. DARPA will also offer individual, brief sidebar discussions (in person or virtually) with the QBI Program Manager. The proposers day and sidebar discussions are open to U.S. and international quantum computing companies and organizations.

    (October 23, 2023) The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced several new opportunities to facilitate international collaboration in Quantum Information Science (QIS), with mechanisms for joint or supplemental funding. Opportunities to apply for joint funding from NSF and partnering organizations are described in the announcements listed below (in reverse chronological order). Also highlighted here are some opportunities to apply for supplemental funding to initiate or enhance an international aspect of an ongoing QIS project funded by NSF. These examples of NSF Dear Colleague Letters encourage international collaboration in QIS in alignment with principles articulated in several bilateral quantum cooperation statements, and consistent with the NSF Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG).

  • Small Business Funding for Quantum Sensing in Biomedical Applications

    (October 11, 2023) The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has released a Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) on Quantum Sensing in Biomedical Applications (SBIR/STTR). This NOSI encourages Phase I, Fast-Track and Direct to Phase II SBIR, as well as Phase I and Fast-Track STTR grant applications from Small Business Concerns to develop commercializable tools, resources, and approaches that harness new quantum sensing approaches to solve biomedical research questions with application in areas of preventing, monitoring and diagnosing disease. The overarching goal is to bring quantum mechanics -based sensing applications from the lab to the biomedical market and clinic. To be responsive to this NOSI, a project must focus on a relevant biomedical problem that falls within the mission of one of the participating Institutes or Centers.  Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact NIH Scientific/Research staff and participating NIH Institutes/Centers prior to preparing an application.
