NASA to Hold Quantum Conference
(August 09, 2021) Next week, NASA’s Glenn Research Center, Ames Research Center, and Goddard Space Flight Center will hold a virtual workshop around quantum information science (QIS). The conference will have exciting presentations on the latest QIS advances and discuss potential development paths for NASA ground and space applications. The NASA QIS Conference will bring together leading QIS researchers, from NASA and the greater community, to present their latest advances and discuss potential development paths for NASA applications. NASA’s hopes this conference will open a dialogue between the Agency and the QIS research community to foster QIS inclusion in future NASA capabilities.

The NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Program adds QISE
Funded at about $55M level, the NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program seeks proposals that explore ways for graduate students in research-based master’s and doctoral degree programs to develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to pursue a range of STEM careers. The program is dedicated to effective training of STEM graduate students in high priority interdisciplinary or convergent research areas, through a comprehensive traineeship model that is innovative, evidence-based, and aligned with changing workforce and research needs.

NSF establishes 3 new institutes to address critical challenges in quantum information science
Quantum phenomena have puzzled and delighted scientists for over a century, revealing unique, counter-intuitive characteristics of matter like superposition and entanglement. For four decades, the U.S. National Science Foundation has worked to enable breakthroughs in quantum information science and engineering that harness what researchers have learned about quantum phenomena to develop technologies like quantum computers, sensors, and communications. These quantum technologies will have enormous consequences for the national and global economy. Department of Energy Announces $625 Million for New Quantum Centers
