  • Quantum Community Networking Workshops at National Laboratories

    (May 26, 2022) The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) program is organizing two QIS community networking workshops. These are designed to increase participation of underrepresented groups in the quantum computing and networking workforce, and to increase participation of underrepresented institutions in quantum computing and networking workforce training.

  • DOE BER Releases FOA for Quantum-Enabled Imaging and Sensing for Bioenergy

    The DOE SC program in Biological and Environmental Research (BER), through its Bioimaging Research effort, announced its interest in receiving applications to advance fundamental research or use-inspired technologies of new bioimaging or sensing approaches that exploit quantum phenomena. BER seeks to advance our understanding of bioimaging by using new quantum science-enabled areas that could resolve limitations of classical optics including resolution and detection limits, signal-to-noise ratio, limitations on temporal dynamics, long term signal stability, sample photodamage and limited penetration, or selective biomolecule sensing. Fundamental research concepts and use-inspired, early prototype research are needed to realize quantum-enabled bioimaging and sensing.

  • DOE National QIS Research Center holding Quantum Career Fair

    (Sept. 8, 2021) The C2QA Quantum Career Fair aims to bring more awareness to the undergraduate, graduate, and post-doc communities about the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science’s National Quantum Information Science (QIS) Research Centers and the different types of careers in QIS at the Centers, national laboratories, academia, and industry. In addition, the path students and post docs can take to pursue a quantum career.

  • DOE Announces $61 Million to Advance Breakthroughs in QIS

    (August 19, 2021) The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $61 million in funding for infrastructure and research projects to advance quantum information science (QIS).  Advances in QIS have the potential to enable new forms of computing, simulation, communication, and sensing that can advance breakthroughs needed to combat the climate crisis and strengthen America’s competitiveness.

  • RFI on Access to Quantum Systems

    (August 16. 2021) DOE releases Request For Information (RFI) : Access to Quantum System. In support of a congressional mandate in the Joint Explanatory Statement accompanying the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2021, DOE has released the FRI to help in their effort to  “develop a roadmap to provide researchers access to quantum systems so as to enhance the U.S. quantum research enterprise, stimulate the fledgling U.S. quantum computing industry, educate the future quantum computing workforce, and accelerate advancement of quantum computer capabilities.”

  • DOE Announces $10 Million for Research on QIS and Nuclear Physics

    (MAY 6, 2021) Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $10 million for interdisciplinary research in Quantum Information Science (QIS) and nuclear physics. The aim of this funding is to draw on the expertise and capabilities of the nuclear physics community to advance areas of interest such as quantum computing and quantum sensors, and using advances in QIS to expand our understanding of nuclear physics.

But to get there, scientists need to experiment with quantum machines that relatively few universities or companies have. Now, scientists can use Sandia’s QSCOUT for research that might not be possible at their home institutions, without the cost or restrictions of using a commercial testbed.
