The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the establishment of the ambitious new Quantum Genesis initiative to develop and deploy the world’s first fault-tolerant, scientifically relevant quantum computing capability for research and development by 2028. The Quantum Genesis effort will serve as a foundational element of the broader Genesis Mission, designed to usher in a new era of computational power for the nation to accelerate scientific discovery and innovation.
The announcement of the Quantum Genesis initiative marks a significant step toward the Department’s goals outlined in President Trump’s Executive Order (EO), Ushering the Next Frontier of Quantum Innovation. The EO reaffirms continued U.S. leadership in quantum information science, including the establishment of the Quantum Computer for Application Development and Discovery Science (QC-ADDS) Effort.

Department of Commerce
The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has announced an agreement with SRI International, a nonprofit research and development institution, to help advance U.S. quantum research, development and manufacturing capabilities. Under the agreement, SRI is establishing the Quantum Manufacturing Engineering Center (QMEC) to accelerate manufacturing of scalable, high-performance quantum components and systems to drive significant growth in the U.S. quantum industry. The center will build on the successful partnership NIST and SRI began in 2019 to establish the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C), in response to the National Quantum Initiative Act.

In support of President Trump’s recent Executive Order, Ushering In the Next Frontier of Quantum Innovation, the Department of War’s Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) announced the launch of a multi-phase initiative designed to transition mature quantum sensing and timing technologies directly to the Joint Force. This initiative is expected to invest up to $200M within the next year in support of this goal.
A new era of battlefield awareness is underway, and America stands at the cusp of a quantum revolution. This pivot represents a fundamental shift away from the limitations of classical Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) sensors. By harnessing the unique properties of quantum physics, this project is set to shatter the longstanding “sensitivity-SWaP” (Size, Weight and Power) trade-off, unlocking unprecedented situational awareness for aerial, surface and subsurface missions in electromagnetically contested environments.

National Science Foundation
The U.S. National Science Foundation today announced Project Triad, a first-of-its-kind initiative to integrate quantum sensing, quantum networking and quantum computing into a single operational system. By bringing these three capabilities together for the first time, Project Triad will move quantum technology out of the lab and into real-world use — with applications spanning safety, healthcare, energy, manufacturing and more.
The initiative will lay the scientific and technological foundation needed to refine, scale and commercialize these systems through U.S. industry, strengthening American economic competitiveness, national security and quality of life.

The Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) at the National Security Agency (NSA), in close collaboration with the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Army Research Office (ARO), announces the launch of the Quantum Ecosystem Advancement, Growth & Leadership (QuantumEAGLe) initiative in support of the President’s Quantum Executive Order. This new program aims to accelerate the U.S. quantum computing ecosystem and strengthen the nation’s leadership in quantum technology.
